Cosmetology schools train you maintain the personal appearance of your customers. Cosmetology training generally includes a mix of classroom studies and practice on customers at the school. Cosmetology schools include classes in personal hygiene, haircutting, hair and scalp treatments, facial treatments, and perhaps more specialized services such as manicures and pedicures. Cosmetology schools may also include training in chemistry, biology, anatomy, and physiology.

A cosmetology career may lead to work in a number of different professions, including hairdressing, barber, manicurist, pedicurist, shampooer, or even as an electrologist. Most cosmetology jobs are held by people in hairstyling related professions, although about five percent of related jobs are for manicurists and pedicurists.
